1991 accord bad hesitation .

      hello i have a 1991 honda accord 2.2 lx 4 door . 🙁 it has a really bad hesitation . when i take off fast or just stomp on the gas the rpm’s will drop almost to the 0 mark for a second then car will slowly take off like i give it half throttle . i have checked the compression on each cylinder and they all check out ok . timing is dead on at 15 before top dead cinter . fuel pressure is at System 45 psi well runing at 2k rpm. the car gets a tune up , oil change , feul filter change , oil filter change , valves adjusted every 1,500 to 2,000 miles .( done by my self ) all egr ports are clean egr valve is new but i clean it any way’s when i do oil . 🙁

        Are you having problems getting the RPMs to increase when it is in neutral? It could possibly be a clogged catalytic converter (or a restriction in the exhaust system somewhere). A quick test if you don’t have a vacuum gauge is to disconnect the exhaust temporarily and see how it runs….

        If it only has issues when driving, there could be a driveline issue…

            i just pulled the exhaust off all it did was make the car louder still the same issue .
            could this be the feul diaphragm at the end of the injectors going bad ?

            edit: i just remember my exhaust has a big leak in the flex pipe .

              If you have a major exhaust leak before the o2 sensor
              its affecting performance. do you smell fuel?

                I think you are referring to the fuel pressure regulator. At WOT, the fuel pressure should increase. You can inspect them to see if it has a bad diaphragm by removing the vacuum line to it and see if fuel is getting into the vacuum line…. Another thing would be to keep the fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the car and see what the fuel pressure is at WOT and when you are having this issue.

                Another thing…You can have proper fuel pressure, but not proper volume… Check your fuel lines for bends/kinks as well… Also, you may be having a fuel injector issue.

                Also, the exhaust leak is something you should fix for several reasons…..

                  i will try the fuel gauge at wot today and stick a screw driver to each injector and listen to them at different rpm’s .

                  its affecting performance. do you smell fuel?[/quote] this year of accord has the o2 sensor in the exhaust manifold before both parts meat up . but can to much exhaust flow hurt performance in a stock engine ? the weird part is it passed smog like this with flying color’s .

                    ok i listen to each injector and they all sound ok . the high as the feul presure got was around 50 to 55 psi at wot. i took the line off the difram going to the intake i smelled a little bit of gas but did not see any . also this morning i noticed that my rpms when at cold idle is no longer staying at 1,500 rpms tell warm like it used to. when warm it idles at 750 rpms .

                      Honda’s rarely have fuel injector issues, I don’t think you’ll have much luck there. It being a 91 it might not set codes. It wouldn’t hurt to check them however. I THINK all you need to do is pull the passenger carpet back on the floor board and look at the flashing LED on the computer. See if you have any codes and go from there. This video will help if you don’t have the flashing LED on the computer.

                        I would try cleaning the throttle body with some tb cleaner to much buildup will cause hesitation
