I watched the video where the 90 Honda had a broken axle and lower ball joint, great video.
Suspension is new to me and I have a question.
Can you do the lower ball joints on these cars with the knuckle still on the car?
I saw that you used a hammer and not a press. Can this damage the ball joint? Can I use this method with the knuckle on the car?

Lastly, if I have to take the knuckle off the car, can I do this without a bench vise? I do not have a vise. I can get one but would need some advice on what to mount it to. I don’t have a bench due to space. I would like a vise but would need to have it attached to something small and portable. Any suggestions?

      Thanks

The knuckle must come off. You may be able to lay the knuckle on the ground
to remove the bj but will be difficult.

You don’t need to take the knuckle off the vehicle. I usually don’t when replacing ball joints of that type. The only reason I did in that video was because there were other parts that needed to be replaced and it was easier to do that off the car.

It would be very difficult to press that ball joint in with a press. I’ve always hammered them in but I was careful when I did it. If you work slow and deliberate, you should be fine.

Good luck and keep us posted.
