I just recently started watching the ETCG videos. Even though I have been doing a lot of work on vehicles, I still find a hint here and there throughout the videos. It is especiall informative since I do not own or work on some of the vehicles in the videos.
Anyway, I bought a 1990 Eagle Talon for 800 bucks three years ago. It started as small bolt ons and eventually grew into a street machine. I pulled the motor to clean the bay up and found some large shavings in the pan (later I found that these where hardened pices of an old gasket.) Although no damage was done to the rods, mains, or bores, I rebuilt the motor. I used eagle H beam rods mounted to Weisco 1400HD’s .020 over. Block was bored with a torque plate. ACL bearings, ARP mains and rod bolts, and all new accesories. The head had a half dozen or so cracked valve guides so I put 1mm oversised valves in with 5 angle (2 on the seat 3 on the valve) valve job, Brian crower valve springs with titanium retainers, Regrind HKS 272’s and some adjustable cam gears. This was held together by a ACT 2900 pressure plate (overkill) and a southbend TZ/FE disk. I rebuilt the tranny with a little tighter preload as recommendend by the builder I purchased the gearsets from. All this was put together in a bay that was rebuilt from the firewall foward. I used the Holset turbo off of a Dodge Cummins in a Bullseye turbine housing. While this hotside is a little restrictive it makes for a great street turbo. I will post some pics tonight, but just thought I would share my andventure. While this adventure is far from over, I have enjoyed every secound of it and the knowledge that I have gained from the build and tuning the car is ireplaceable. Feel free to ask questions and or make comments.
