Most idle problems are mixture related and it sounds like you’ve done your homework on a lot of the main things to check, at this point it might not be a bad idea to check for vacuum leaks as they can cause all kinds of problems including idle problems an

You could also try tapping on the IACV with a screw driver to see if the idle will change._x000D_

Does this idle issue occur more when cold or after the engine has warmed up?

Perhaps check the throttle cable again but this time try snapping the throttle with the cable disconnected, if the problem goes away you may have a throttle cable problem yet even thought I remember you say you checked it.

since you have other cars does any of them idle smooth? if so i would try swaping TBIs and see if that fixs it. GM is kinda known for the rough idle issue with TBI and because of that i would be looking at that first.

I thought these came with TPI systems? Interesting.

i guess i was going off of him stating throttle body. but i think you are right. it should be TPI. but the non formulas and lower end firebirds ha

OK we’ve ruled out an issue with the throttle cable then nice work.

I ran into this same problem once with a 305 TPI. The previous owner was tired of the idle problems so he unloaded the car on me for a fair price. In my situation the problem ended up being a sticky EGR valve. It would stick open sometimes. Sometimes the

An easy way to check for an EGR issue is to pull up on the valve at idle, I can sometimes reach my fingers in there and pull up on them.

Sorry to hear that but perhaps you could find another way to activate the valve, the results would still prove out the same way.
