      Hi guys!
So I recently bought a red 1989 honda prelude 2.0SI 4WS. The problem I’m having is that the car has NO power and is unwilling to rev while driving. It idles fine and revs fine at idle but as soon as you drive it… its got nothing. The things that have been replaced so far are, main relay, fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, and air filter. Please keep in mind that this car has been sitting for almost 9 years (some of the time it was inside). I’m 16 years old and attempting to learn a little about auto repair so please go easy on me if I’m missing something obvious. 🙂

      EDIT:
I should note that I have done a compression test and it came to around 160 for all 4 cylinders.. I have also done a spark test and its sparking good at all cylinders.

sounds like your ignition timing is off, adjust your distributor cap until it runs at it best then take it to a shop to have it properly timed or (if you have a timing light) do it yourself

well I thought the ignition timing was off but if that was true wouldn’t it idle funny?

not necessarily it sounds as if the timing is 1: too retarded or 2: the advanced curve isn’t working

Edit: check the vacuum lines to the vacuum operated advanced curve

ok I’ll check it out.. some more info that I have.. when I put the new plugs in it was running for like 10 minutes and had no power. thats when I did the compression test and I found that cylinders 3 and 4 had fouled the plugs (black with like a white powder on the tips), on cylinder 2 the plug was completely clean, and on cylinder 1 the plug was black and wet (smelled like unburned fuel).

do you think you can post some photos of the spark plugs if you still have them?

well I already cleaned the plugs up.. but here are some pictures I found online that are pretty close.

The top picture is close to what cylinders 3 and 4 looked like..
second picture is what cylinder 2 looked like (like new but the plug smelled like fuel)
the last picture is close to what cylinder 1 looked like… the stuff rubbed off with just my fingers
I should also note that there was no discoloration on the plug from cylinder 2.. there was on all the others though
