      Hi,

I went hard on the weekend and changed out the oil, air filter and valve cover gasket and coolant. There was also leaks in the heater and coolant hoses which were replaced. what I am seeing now is the fans are not working and have white smoke coming from the muffler. I did bleed the coolant but can hear the coolant bubbling in the reservoir. The temperature seem ok on the dash as I took the car for a 20 mile run.

I am concerned it will overheat without the fans working and also the A/C unit does not work and not sure where to start checking the problem? What I did not do was run the engine @ 2500 rpm with the heater switch on full and will bleed the line again, hopefully this is the problem.

sounds like air is still in the cooling system. does the white
smoke clear? Did you replace the rad cap?

White smoke is not a good sign, especially if it smells sweetish. You may have a head gasket leak.

            Hi,

I replaced the radiator cap drained and replaced the coolant, opened the bleed screw and got the air out but topped the coolant up after the test run as it seemed low?

So all up this weekend I replaced 2 heater hoses that were leaking at the back of the engine and distributor seal, installed new oil and air filters, changed valve cover gasket and radiator cap. I have checked all fuses to see why the cooling fans weren’t working but have come to a stop. Again it is blowing white smoke?

The white smoke does clear after a few seconds.

White smoke is normal in cold weather.

I wouldn’t worry about the white smoke at the moment. You need to follow the correct procedure when you bleed the air out of the cooling system. If not, you won’t be successful. Here’s a video on the process.

You MUST follow this procedure in order to be effective. If it’s done properly, your cooling fans should start to work normally again.

                  Keep us posted.

                    Hi,

I have bleed the coolant system but the radiator fan did not start, can you explain what the next step would be to see if there is a problem with the fan motor?

A functioning radiator cap will pull coolant from the reservoir and keep the radiator full. However, the system has to be otherwise sealed.

One thing to check is the hose connecting the radiator neck to the reservoir. This hose when aged may not seal. I had one vehicle where inside the reservoir there was a plastic tube and it had become lose. If necessary, install clamps.

                        Hi,

I am sick of playing with this vehicle 1988 Honda prelude 4ws,i took the car to the local mechanic and requested he check the head gasket and test the coolant system, what he came up with was the head gasket is fine but the temp gauge in the car is not working and the cooling fan is not coming on.Can you tell me where the sensors are on the vehicle.
