Hey guys, I posted the same issue a couple months ago, I have an 88 Honda Civic 1.5 that is getting terrible gas mileage, and with a computer code for an oxygen sensor. I have replaced the sensor about 5 times, the last time with the OE sensor and no change. After computer is reset, there is still a check engine light for the sensor.

At start up, the car runs fine, then about 45-65mph the check engine comes on, and the engine then becomes noticeably rougher and louder, like it has to run harder.

For the life of me I can not figure this one out. The manual had me replace the fuel pressure regulator, which I have done, with no success.

Could it be an issue with the computer becoming bad? The car does have 197,xxx miles. But besides this issue, is in great shape.

      Please help!

do you have a scanner to read live data.See if the o2
        is switching rapidly.

I’ve seen one of Eric’s video on this:

          Do you think that this:
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OZ-Auto-Car-Fault-Diagnostic-Scanner-D900-Auto-Code-Reader-OBD2-BUS-Scan-Tool-/151057607569?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item232bbc2b91

Will produce the same results as Eric’s device?

I would like to test my Catalytic converter too (no error codes). Just want to see the live data. Will it be useful to purchase or is it only meant to be used for when errors flash on the car?

No it won’t work. I miss read.Thought it said 1998 not
1988. This scanner will not work. your car did not have
            live data capability yet.

I don’t think your Honda can supply live data. It’s OBD 1

I’m going to attemp to supply a wiring diagram. Not sure it will work though.

Yeah it’s the LED type code, where I count the flashes on the computer. But the thing is is I’ve replaced the o2 sensor 5 times, reset the computer each time, and it still comes up as that code. I know it’s possible each sensor, including the OE one, is bad, but highly unlikely.

So any guesses as to why it keeps coming up the o2 sensor code?

what code came up? this sensor is a single wire?

Get yourself a digital volt meter if you don’t have one. Disconnect the o2 sensor and with the key on engine off check the voltage at the wiring side of the sensor and not the sensor itself.

It should read around 5.0 volts give or take a few points. If it does then plug the sensor back together and back probe the connector. You should get a reading close to before. If not close you could have a bad ECM,connector plug,or a damged wire between the sensor and the ECM.

If everything is as suggested i would have to think that the engine is running too rich or lean for the o2 sensor voltage to change/switch voltage and logging the fault code.

If my info is correct code #2 is an o2 code on that car.
