1988 Honda Civic DX 1.5, auto, 190,000 miles

Car drives great until I hit between 45mph-60mph, then and never at a start up, does the check engine light come on, and the code is the Oxygen Sensor code. Car will run rough, and also sounds a bit louder once check engine light comes on. I have replaced the oxygen sensor 5 times in the last 3 weeks, including the OEM sensor recommended by Honda dealership. Nothing has fixed this problem. Check engline light still comes on for the 02 code. I am getting horrible gas mileage. I used to be able to go around 340 miles on full tank, now I barely get 200 miles.

This car only has 1 oxygen sensor, and like I said replaced it 5 times and still doing the same thing, I have reset the code each time too.

      Please help!

      Chris

what is the code ? the ecu is getting a lean signal so to compensate its giving a rich command check all your vacuum hoses it could be intake manifold cracked or something like that ?

Code 1 and 20. I haven’t checked either vacuum hoses or intake, but that’s def. a good idea. I was thinking cat convertor might be clogged. But issue also seems electrical to me. But I really have no idea where to start.

it could well be an injector fualt sticking injectors ? when the injector/s get to a condition like high revs ect they could be sticking open and the oxygen sensor could be picking that condition up ? also blocked cat is a maybe does it rev all the way to the red ine under pressure ? if it does then the cat should be ok but if it stays at a certain rev and dont go above then cat could be a possibility

A mechanic said he believes the overdrive in the transmission isn’t working and that’s what is causing my car to run “rougher” at higher speeds. I’m researching the overdrive, but if he is right, would this also cause me to get an 02 code at the same speeds? Why would the 02 sensor be affected if this is the case?
