I was looking at the Chilton’s online that we have a link to in the ‘How To’ section and there is an exhaust gas sensor used on that vehicle.

It also shows trouble shooting procedures too.

No, it is not the ho2 sensor. A ho2 sensor is a 4 wire oxygen sensor.

The exhaust gas sensor should be by the exhaust manifold. The picture of the sensor and its location is shown in the Chilton’s library for your vehicle.

I don’t think any of those codes would be responsible for an idle fluctuation, for that I would recommend looking for vacuum leaks first thing, that said I wouldn’t worry about the O2 sensor till you address any potential vacuum leaks as that could help set the code for the O2. As for the crank sensor I’d recommend at least checking it’s resistance or better yet perform the check in the Chilton manual before you buy a new one, it’s also a good idea to do a good visual inspection on the wiring and connector as well.

If you suddenly don’t have compression it may be that the engine is flooded, pull the plugs and check if they’re wet, if they are dry them out and let the cylinders air out then when you go to crank after everything is dry hold your foot to the floor on the accelerator so that you can ‘clear the flood’ and get compression back. I know you say that your hoses are good but that’s not the only possible source of a vacuum leak, it could just as easily be the carburetor base gasket or intake gasket, heck it could even be a worn out throttle shaft but you have to check for them using the method in the video link I gave you or some other method but a visual inspection just isn’t going to cut it.

Where are you finding these ‘traveling mechanics’? If it’s on craigslist or something, I wouldn’t get yer hopes up too high.

if the car sounds like the video do a compression test. I still think the car has a timing issue. I would remove the timing cover to check the timing

o no if i take my passenger tire off its easy to access the timing pulley, so i think it wouldnt be much of a hassle but then it might get complicated.
thanks college men i was looking at the app you sent me i dont see 1987 maximas on there only 1994 and up, i am not sure its the same deal i think the manual goes from 1985 to 1989 if im not mistaken….

is there anything to put on my throttle body gasket i have a really good hunch it might be leaking from in between the gasket and where the the 2 parts meet the throttle body and the block that is… any tips on what to use??????

ok so i took the spark plugs off all 6 like i said before got them new about 2 weeks ago, turns out when i pulled them out they’re burned smelled a bit like gas all of them wer black at the tip all of them.

just to be on the safe side i took my manifold off and the gasket was broken in 3 pieces, i do not know how it happen since i got it brand spanking new.
i will replace the gasket, change the timing belt, readjust the timing pulley and from there on i will post again to let you guys know how that turned out.
