I just recently purchased a running (poorly) 87 accord LX. I have noticed several things wrong with the car in the first 100 mi of driving. It has a hard time starting, idling issue, some times revs up while changing gears, shakes violent when breaks are applied, and minor shake until 70mph, terrible oil leak when running (not while sitting over night) and poping in front end and rear when going over transitions driveways, parking lots etc… I know this sounds like im beating up my old beater lol, but other than these issues the motor seems strong and tranny seems smooth. I am lost in the auto mechanic field. Can anyone tell me if anyone has similar problems??? All replies are much appreciated:)

Very nice looking car there sir. I can’t say i know much about the carb, or the automatic, but what do you mean by revving up when changing gears..?
Also, as for the popping noises, check your bushings and balljoints. These cars have an upper balljoint on each side in the rear, the lowers are just bushings.. My balljoint in the rear was popping, and let me tell you, it was very very worn. As for the front, theres an upper and lower on each side.. check your inner upper bushings for the popping, they may be loose..
Otherwise, the links provided will be plenty, but i know a thing or two about those 3rd gen accords, i’ve had one for 5 years..

The oil leak could possibly be an oil pressure sending unit leaking. This will be worse with a running engine and may leak little if at all when the engine is shut off.

The shuddering when braking and noise in the front suspension means the entire braking and suspension system should be checked over; especially with 300k miles on it.
If there is a ball joint (or more than one) going out the car should not be driven until repaired as a worn ball joint could snap anytime. If you’re lucky the car will slide to a stop with chassis damage. The unlucky case scenario is rolling the car and ending up dead.
