Well, back at this buick. I had it running good for about 120 miles then it started acting like it was running out of gas about every 20-25 miles, and most of the time I would have very little fuel pressure when I depressed the schrader valve, once that little bit of pressure is relieved the car will usually start back up and run for another 20-25 miles and then do this again. Also it seems to go by miles driven and not time running, because its happened when the car was driven 17 miles parked for 6-7 hours and then driven about 8 more miles and it acted up again. Any help on figuring this out would be greatly appreciated. Btw when the key is turned on the fuel pressure is 38 and when started drops to 30 and when running and the vacuum removed from fuel pressure regulator goes up to 40. And it doesn’t throw any codes.

      Thanks

The pressure increasing when you remove the vacuum from the regulator is normal. However, have you inspected the vacuum line to it for fuel? It probably is fine but take a look at it.

Inspect all fuel lines on the car for kinks and bends as well.

how long has it been since the fuel filter was replaced?

How old is the fuel pump?

I would disconnect and plug the vacuum line to the regulator and take her for a drive and see if it still has this issue. Your fuel pump may be going out. Also they can have proper pressure but not proper volume.

the fuel filter was just replaced about 2 weeks ago, I got the car used so I don’t know how old the fuel pump is.

You would need to know what the fuel pressure is when it acts up. I know it is more difficult than it seems but you should be able to jury-rig a fuel pressure gauge, perhaps tied to the wiper arm, and drive the car while observing the fuel pressure. Just make sure that your connections don’t leak or are in the way of the throttle linkage etc.

Check out your other post for another idea.

I’ve had people saying the crank position sensor but as I stated it acts just like it is running out of gas, when this problem happens, it will start by missing, then will idle fine for a few minutes unless you press the accelerator then it will bog and sound like it is sucking air and then stall. The reason I’m describing this is because I’ve had a crank position sensor go bad and the vehicle would just quit running with no warning or symptoms, and I’m wondering if anyone has had a crank sensor go that acted like it was running out gas.

              thanks

clamp off the FPR return line and see what the fuel pressure
stays at with key on engine off. then start it and see what the
pressure is.if pressure is good.replace the FPR

When it stalls, does it start right back up?

I just replaced the fuel pressure relay, a week and a half ago.

Usually after it stalls, it will not start back up. After it stalls the fuel pressure at the fuel rail is low, when I depress the schrader valve there is some pressure but the fuel does not shoot out and when I relieve all the pressure and then try to start it, it will start.

Next time it stalls, I would check to see if your missing spark or fuel so take a spark tester, test light and your fuel pressure gauge with you.

If your missing fuel, then I would start doing some voltage drop testing for the fuel pump circuit. I would even scope the fuel pump and see how many amps it is pulling as we’ll as looking at the wave form.

When you have your fuel pressure gauge on the vehicle while running, when you goose the throttle does the fuel pressure increase?

when i had the fuel pressure gauge on it when it was running i didn’t try hitting the accelerator, but i will.

                          thanks
