It was a rainy day, I went out to start my mustang at 7 a.m. as usual but this morning it seemed a little rough with a miss. I figured it might be a plug wire or moisture under the cap, but it cleared out so I drove to get coffee and then to my job. It rained all day and when I went to go home that day it wouldn’t start. I popped the hood , pulled the coil wire off the cap to check for spark as my friend cranked it , she fired right up! As I drove home it ran great. I decided to spray the wires and cap and as soon as I sprayed the coil the engine began to run rough. So I changed out the coil and it seemed to run fine, not! The next morning I figured problem solved but as I started it I had the same problem, it cleared out so I decided to drive to work anyway. After work I could barely get it started but after I raced the engine it seemed like a switch, it ran perfect. I got home and changed the plugs cap, rotor & wires. The cat. converter seemed to rattle a little but at this point I’m stumped! Does anyone have any ideas on this? Your help would be deeply appreciated. bruce8492

Has it done it since changing the wires, cap, rotor, and plugs?
I once got an ’89 Accord for free because it wouldn’t start every time it rained out. I took a look at it on a rainy day, and noticed a bit of a black spot on one of the braces on the underside of the hood, right along the edge of the brace, where it is kind of sharp.
I lowered the hood near to closed, and looked under with a flash light, and low and behold, someone had rerouted the wire from the coil up over some other stuff that it should have been under. It was rubbing ever so slightly against the edge of that brace, which had compromised the insulation some. Not completely, but enough that it would arc into the hood when it was damp / wet out. I slapped in some new plugs and wires, making sure to route them the proper way, and it fired right up, and ran reliably for several years.
