Hello all! I have a 1986 Ford f150 XLT Lariat. 4 Spd Inline six.
The other night, I started it before I left work to let it warm up, when I came out to leave, it had stalled. Has never done this. So I cranked it and it started back up. Got on the highway and i got another 10 miles up the road. During that the engine cut out twice, it was the same behavior as if I turned off my ignition while driving. Both times it cut out, it did so for 5 seconds, then resumed normal power. Finally it stalled permanently. I pulled off and It would crank, but not start.
It is now sitting at the local mechanic shop waiting to be repaired.
Recently I retarded the timing just a little because It was too far advanced, and would slow crank momentarily after being driven a while. And during a drive to work last week, my distributor came loose and completely screwed up the timing, and it barely ran until I adjusted it. but i got it back to where it was for the most part. (Just to let you know the recent hardships of sort.)
Does anyone know what the issue could be? Is this an Ignition Coil, or Distributor issue? Im at a loss, and I just want my truck back… Any Help is very very appreciated.
