i am working on my 1984 gmc k1500 4 wheel drive pickup and when i start the truck to warm it up to operating temperature my gas gauge goes from the half of tank to empty i dont see no signs of a fuel leak i rebuilt the carburetor and i put in a new mechanical fuel pump. im thinking the fuel float in the fuel tank is bad and iam wanting to know is the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel tank to with the float on this year of a pickup because i looked at the emissions sticker on the truck and it did not have it no were in the engine conpartment anywhere. any suggestions or answers to these problems? or do i need to look at other components to do further testing or other observations?

I don’t believe there is a fuel psi regulator in the tank on that one. Fuel psi is not regulated in the same way on a carbureted engine. That said, it’s likely to be a problem in the fuel gauge circuit. Thing is, it could be the gauge, the wiring, or the sending unit. It’s going to be a process of elimination to find out which one. The most common cause is the sending unit, but it could also be the wiring or the gauge. More info on solving issues like this here.
