My Dad, a gentleman who is getting on in years and who still enjoys noodling with old cars, has a 1981 el camino with a 305 and 4 barrel electronic quadrajet carb. He has a couple questions, as he is stuck…yesterday he watched Eric’s video here:
He does not use computers and would have loved to call Eric to ask his question, but I didnt want to break eric’s rule about contacting him about specific automotive questions, so here I am!
If anyone is so kind to help, here they are:
1. Does the small barrel coming from the solenoid, going to the float, that sits down in the carburetor — does it have a spring under it?
2. In the video, the small rod (as big as the inner ink tube of a ball point pen), which you were screwing out above the solenoid — does that little rod have a spring under it?
3. Are there any other springs in that area?
My dad would absolutely love a phone call with a knowledgeable person person about these carbs…but if anyone has any idea at all and you just reply here, thats a huge help as well!
