Just purchased a ’74 VW Beetle as a restoration project to make it a daily driver. The voltage regulator under the rear seat is bolted to the vehicle but the wires coming from the engine compartment, battery and front of vehicle are all lying on the floor and not connected. As I am new to this and cannot read a wiring diagram, it is difficult. Can anyone assist with an easy to follow diagram.

      Thanks,
      Harley

They have free wiring diagrams on AutoZone.com. You just have to make a free account and then you can access all the diagrams that they have for your car. They aren’t as complex as other wiring diagrams so you should have an easier time understanding it.

If you can post a wiring diagram we will try and walk you through it.
see if this link helps in the meantime.

If you don’t know how to read a wiring diagram this can prove difficult. It’s even more difficult to try and explain how to read one via a forum post. If you’re in over your head, you might consider consulting with a specialist. It will be cheaper in the long run. If you mess up the wiring and someone has to come in and fix it for you, I’ll guarantee it will cost more.

I once was being shown around the boiler room of a new building under construction by an electrician. He showed me how he had wired up some pumps. My remark to him was, “That’s not how it is supposed to work!” He then confessed he couldn’t read a wiring diagram. He was a master electrician and owned the business.

So, yeah, reading wiring diagrams apparently is a skill you are born with or without. Nothing to be ashamed of but get the correct drawings and then find some assistance.

I disagree. Skills can be learned. I have trouble reading and spelling because of a learning disability. That doesn’t stop me from trying or finding new ways to learn.
