I have a 1972 Corvette Stingray, very good condition (engine rebuilt, interior restored) There is one problem though, I’m not sure how long it has been doing this..but say I’m in 2nd or 3rd gear, doesn’t realy matter which one.. I’m just coasting with my foot completely off the gas pedal, then i start to press down on the gas pedal there is a huge ‘knock’ sounds like it’s coming from the rear end..It’s definatley not normal, it’s a pretty intense knock.. so Does anyone have any opinions on what the most obvious problem could be?

I didn’t have time to jack the car up today.. But i looked under with a flash light as much as i could.. The only thing I could see was a U-joint between the rear diff. and the wheel, it looked a little rough.. and it was covered in some kind of oil or lubricant, enough so that it was dripping off of it a little, and the car has been sitting for about 3 weeks.. does that sound like a problem?
Definitely a problem. That’s probably gear oil. Sounds like the seal on your diff is gone. That noise could be a damaged ring gear or damaged bearings. I would pull the diff off the car and check the inner workings. If you find grit or metal shavings in the gear oil you probably have some bad bearings. You are going to need to replace the seals, and if I were you I would go ahead and just completely rebuild the diff (bearings and all) check for any cracks in your ring gear the housing etc.
It’s possible it could be something in the diff but look to the U joints, engine and transmission mounts first. If memory serves the monoleaf is bolted to the diff and in my experience they are a real pain to get out. If you still have a steal rear mono leaf spring then I’d recommend switching to plastic, it will handle better and hold up longer.
