Hello all! I bought a 1971 F250 just a few days ago as a spare rig, and while it needs some work it seems to run pretty well.
Checked the fluids before and after getting it home and after it sat a bit I noticed under the crankcase cap and the oil dipstick port that there was some funky white mixture. Usually one would think a headgaskets because of water and oil mixing. The stuff under the crankcase was green and the dipstick was the normal cream color. There wasn’t much of it by far, and the heads were replaced two years ago, along with a major rebuild on the 390.
Now before driving it home the truck sat in below temps for almost a week, it’s been about – 20 to -35 all week and finally it broke and went back to normal temps. I noticed yesterday when I checked on it. The heads had ice all over them, and the engine got covered in snow too after opening the hood. so i Guess I’m rather asking for an opinion. Would it be a possible head gasket? Or just random water seeping in from all the snow and ice? No overheating or funky tailpipe smoke, or smell. Was a little smokiy in the engine bay on startup but quickly vanished. Any help appreciated thank you
