I have been driving a lot lately and have a few questions.

      1. does my corolla need a new timing chain at 150k it has 147,200 now and at the end of each day it has 50 more or less.

      2. my exhaust is rusting and im starting to see it flake off over the back axle should I replace it?

      3. I hear there is this new enzyme fuel treatment that I can use to get 51 mpg after replacing my plugs? and cylinder head which Toyota recommends also the valves and 800 cc injectors due to my ecu being a stage 2.
      4. is running plus or spreme fuel a good idea because lately my car has rich black out the back and sounds real nice when I unbolt the exuast from the muffler.
last I was wondering how do I get a girl to notice my car?

        1. I don’t have a corolla
but I have a Toyota Soluna (close enough ^^)
I change the timing belt every 40KM with maximum 60KM, I’m not sure for the timing chain, may be about 100KM cmmiw.

        2. For the exhaust, I use sand paper to remove the rust, and polish it again with some kind of compound to make it shine again ^^, but if it involve hard rust with hole, perhaps you can fix the hole with plate or replace the exhaust.

        3. I never use engine treatment..sorry ^^

Is it not more important to have the girl notice “you” instead of a hunk of cold metal? This is not meant to be a flame, just common sense.

I am making an assumption here your Corolla is 20 years old or less….

            1. The timing chain is similar to the in-tank fuel filter (or door handle for that matter)… It is not “lifetime” and can go bad. However most do last the lifetime of the vehicle; but if you are having issues because of it, then it should be replaced.

            2. If it is flaking off and getting thin, then yes, your exhaust pipe should be replaced.

            3. Never heard of such an enzyme…

            4. Run the fuel that your vehicle requires… In the US, 87 octane is all that is needed for a Corolla, running higher octane fuel is just a waste of money…. Black smoke is a rich condition, check your fuel trims… May be a leaking injector, bad O2 sensors, etc…

            5. Getting a girl to notice a Corolla… Well, a Corolla may work for a girl who likes guys who are cheap and don’t spend money (have yet to meet one of those….) Corollas scream “I am thrifty, practical and I don’t care who notices…”. I have never met a girl who liked a loud car (exhaust), or obnoxiously overdone ricer…. She may notice it, but don’t think she would like being seen in it…LOL… However, the brand new Corollas are a bit more stylish….. JMHO though….

They don’t put those time and mileage limits in the manuals for no good reason. Some statistician at the factory played with bell failure curves and jiggered the numbers until he got an acceptable number of failures below the time and mileage cutoffs. Then added a medium-sized safety factor. I had a timing belt break when I went about 40% over the recommended change miles, so, don’t wait that long for sure.

The kind of person who is attracted to another based on what they drive, is the exact kind of person you don’t want in your life.

If you want to impress a girl with your car the rules are simple.

                Keep it reasonably clean

                Keep it maintained

I know a lot of people already answered your question, but I want to add in what i think:

                  1. I’m guessing you have a 2006 Corolla because of what it says on the bottom of your post. I was told that timing chains last forever, but they can cause noises which can lead to bad things, so I highly recommend replacing it.

                  2. Yes you should replace it. Just like ToyotaKarl said, your exhaust is thinning and should be replaced.

                  3. Well if Toyota recommends it, then yes you should do it.

                  4. Only use the fuel your car recommends, but I have learned that it is OK to use plus or supreme and premium on your car.

                  5. As for getting a girl to notice your car just keep it clean and make it look nice. 🙂 Don’t turn it into an annoying ricer though…

Timing chains don’t have a service interval. Keep the oil changed and at the proper level to keep them in good health.

As for rusty exhaust, it may last quite some time before it becomes an issue. In my opinion, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.

Miracle fuel additives are snake oil. You can’t change the laws of physics.

                    As for octane.

Who cares if the girl notices your car. It’s much better if they notice you.
