      09 Dodge Journey AWD. 61,000 miles….

      1) Father in law took it to work about 4 months ago and when he got off it wouldnt start. All it would do was click. Started just fine with no problems before this incident. The battery in this vehicle is very pricey.. Battery replaced. It sometimes still doesnt want to start. ANY IDEAS ON THIS ISSUE?

      2) Same vehicle with another problem. (Dodge dealership says its stuck in low gear and wont shift up). Just picked it up from the dealership mechanic after about 3 months. It drove fine all the way home. Heres what ive been told.

Sometimes it doesnt shift up from lower gears.
It has not moved at all a couple times when shifted into gear.

Dealership Mechanic is saying the transmission is shot and its $4500 for a new one. Vehicle has 61,000 miles on it and has no warranty. Only owner vehicle and it has been babied by owner. Could the dealership be wrong? Is there a possibility that it could be one of the many sensors being faulty?

ADVICE NEEDED please and thank you.

        1. Vehicle will not start (no crank/no start)

I have identified a few items of interest. You could jump the starter relay to eliminate the power supply circuit as a source of the fault. Simple electrical testing will help you identify the problem.

        2. Transmission will not upshift from low gear.

Use the autostick feature of your vehicle to provide a separate and independent source of transmission input and report your result back to this forum.

There is an important correlation between the two aforementioned complaints; the PCM plays an important part in starting and transmission control:

I would suggest checking the PCM to ensure it is getting proper power and ground before continuing further diagnostics. A good scan tool that will allow you to view live PID data will prove very useful.

The symptoms you are experiencing may be related to this recall:

With no start issues you have to find out what’s missing. The information above looks helpful and specific to your vehicle. Additional information can be found here.

Aside from that be aware of things like vehicle security systems that could cause a no start issue.

As for the transmission it could be an electrical issue causing the problem. If you have any codes stored that would be a good place to start. More information here.

Good luck and keep us posted.
