Hi everyone ! So I just recently changed my power steering fluid in my 2007
Honda Accord and I put in some prestone fuild rather than Honda fuild . Would this be safe ?when the car is very cold the pump wines a lot when turning but after the car has warmed up it makes no nosy . ( this only happens early in the morning when the car starts from dead cold . I live in CA so it’s not freezing cold maybe around 50’F lowest .

Also my engine oil smells of bit of gas and the oil gets dirty quick it’s only been 2,000 miles with regular oil and it’s medium dark yellow . I took off the oil cap and there is a lot of blow by …. But I hear that’s normal .

      2007 Honda Accord vp
      Miles 110k

      Thanks !!!

Well as far as the fluid goes we need a bit more info on what exactly you put in.

As for the power steering noise here is a link to the TSB on the subject.

This is a very easy fix and very cheap.

        Hope this helps.

That’s the fuild i used . Link below

Also , with the very old black fuild that was in there , it never made a winding sound ever , cold or hot .

As for the gas smell a mild gas smell is normal but if it is heavy you should take a small sample and drip some on a piece of aluminum foil and see if quickly lights on fire and if it does stop driving it immediately!!!

There are a few different things that can cause this.

            One Plugged PCV valve.
            Two leaking injectors.
            Three faulty fuel pressure regulator.
            Four old worn spark plugs.

              The fluid should be fine.

Im betting there is a bunch of air trapped in the system.

With the cap off try turning the wheel back and forth this will force the air out of the system.

You sure ? I’ve been driving it for 2 days now I would expect the air to come out by then . Also my wheel is locked when the car is off even though it’s in N and the keys in it .

I’ll give that a try ! But if it doesn’t burn what’s making my oil turn so dark so quick

If you broke any hoses loose to drain it you could need new gaskets for those hoses.
Sounds like it is sucking in air from somewhere.
If it was a preexisting problem it could just be very small and the contaminants from the old fluid clogged it

When you drain your oil you aren’t getting all the old oil out so it mixes with the new fluid and appears dirty.
Also the older a vehicle gets the more likely it has dirt and gunk in the oil from lack of frequent oil changes sometime during its life.

I change my engine oil every 3K useing conviontal . Right now it just hit 2K miles with this castroal oil .

Umm and the power steering lines all look fine I only took off the return line. I do think there might be a small pocket of air but I assume it would have been pushed out after 3 days of driving it .

Also thanks for the feedback everyone ! These clues and ideas are a great help 🙂
