      Hi there,

I have a 06 nissan quest and it everything points that the control arm bushing is leaking. I looked around the bushing and there is not any other component that leaks. (see attachment)

I asked nissan and auto parts including DORMAN directly and they said the bushing for the replacement part they sell is just a rubber compound but I did some research and it seems that there are oil-filled bushings so I am not sure is this car has those installed or not. this part has not been serviced before.

      So my questions are:
*Do you guys know if this car has oil-filled bushing attached to the control arm?
*If the replacement part has not oil-filled bushing is that an issue can I still intall it?
*I think is important to replace the part, what is the risk to drive the car like this?
*can I drive the car like that for a few more days/weeks/months?

      Thank you ,
      Gerardo

i don’t know if the control arm bushings themselves leak. i’ve looked at the service manual on the maxima and it doesn’t say to check for leaks of any sort on inspecting on the control arms. i know they’re different cars, but a lot of the components are also shared.

i would just replace the control arm assembly with the ball joint and call it done. i plan on doing this to my maxima in the spring.

I believe the lower control arm bushings are just rubber.

Any Idea where the oil is coming from?
Again everything look clean around that area.

i would say the oil cooler because while driving the small leaks from the oil cooler could get pushed out there where the control arm is at by the wind, but you say everything is clean, so i duuno. could you take more pictures of the surrounding area, especially after a drive?

                  Hi there,
just wanted to give an update.

I replaced the control arm with one from an auto parts shop.

The rubber bushing on the old control arm is cracked and YES it is leaking.

I think it is not oil it is a kind of a fluid like antifreeze thickness.

                  Thank you all.

                  Gerardo.

i never knew control arms could leak. i really thought it was just a strong rubber bushing

Glad you got it sorted out. I have seen oil filled bushings and it sounds like you had one. I’m hoping you were able to find and replace it with an oil filled version like the original. If not and you have a pull to one side then you might consider replacing the other side. I’m not saying that will happen but if it does that’s how you might handle it. Thanks for keeping us up to date and for using the ETCG forum.
