06 pilot, 244,000 miles on it and I decided to clean the throttle body. No prior running/idle issues, just thought it needed to be done. Removed air cleaner cover and unhooked all hoses, loosened clamps and removed all the air intake “stuff ” to reveal the throttle body. Using throttle body spray I wetted a rag and manually pushed open the butterfly valve and held it open using the plastic handle of a screwdriver. Very dirty black tar like stuff wiped out. I would move the handle from the top half of butterfly valve to bottom half to wipe out entire throttle body with rag. When I figured it was clean I pulled out the screwdriver handle, hooked up hoses nd tightened clamps and all the “stuff” I had taken off was put back on. Started pilot and engine light, VSA light and ! stay lit and engine idles at around 1300 rpm but is in l.p. mode because 3000 rpm is max it will reach. Using scanner I het a idle relearn code. I perform idle relearn with no avail. I clear the code and can hear a click as it clears the code but immediately u can hear it click back into the idle relearn code. Tried multiple times to relearn idle, and clear the code with no avail. Did I break something inserting that screwdriver handle? Is opening the butterfly valve manually instead of holding the gas pedal down mess something up? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would try disconnecting the battery, cycling the key on to drain any capacitors and letting it sit for a couple of minutes. Reconnect the battery and see what happens.

What method are you using to relearn the idle? Do you have an appropriate scan tool or are you using a manual method? Part of any relearn is the motor, or actuator, has to move along it’s path from start to finish. The clicking could easily be the throttle plate closing after it’s done it’s pass.

I’m using an Innova scanner. I did disconnect the battery but didn’t drain capacitors. The relearn was to turn key on, count 2 seconds then turn on and run at 3000 rpm ( which is it’s max in limp mode) then after 5 minutes at 3000 rpm I let off and let it idle. I get out and listen for the fans to cycle on two times after that. Then I turned on A/C and let it run for 4-5 minutes then shut it off.
