So my 05′ Neon SXT has been having a few random electrical gremlins on and off. Some of the tale tale signs of just having a jumpy speedo (pigtail to tranny sensor was replaced earlier this year, diagnosed by shop), seconds of rough running, turn the key no start no crank (then turn it back and starts right up), etc.

So here is were things get interesting. Tuesday had a no crank when I turned the key turned it back and did it again started up just fine for awhile until later that night. Missed around with starter wire after confirming starter was good with jumper wire. Somehow got her running to get it back to were I was staying for night just by playing with wire (doubting that was the issue but it worked, and well newborn was in car). Next day go to take it home to run more tests and no start at all. Had her towed home.

Checked for power at the starter itself to find I had none. Checked fuse and relay (switched out for horn and fuel pump, both confirmed good). Sprayed some electrical cleaning and cleaned contacts best I could in relay box and still didn’t work. Ran OHMs test from starter back to relay and it confirmed that there is connection.

Power was confirmed at starter. Now when ya turn the key radio don’t even pop on AND power outlet remains powered no matter if car is OFF, Acc., or to ON position. Did order new ignition switch but wonna make sure I’m not missing something here in the picture…any advice is appreciated.

Check engine light don’t even come on. Can’t even pull codes with key trick.

Jumping didn’t work either do have power at terminals still.

Got a local shop that specializes in electric take a looky tomorrow (gotta love the shops that don’t mind a house call). Starting to think more PCM?

Dunno why or how but radio started working. Tried my other key (grays) but still not crank no start.

Based on your description you may not be far off in thinking you have an ignition switch problem. That said, it might be worth checking the battery and it’s connections just to be sure they’re good. Poor connections there can effect the entire electrical system. More info on no starts here.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Had local guy come and take a look (non-dealer), he pretty much agreed with security system issue after power probing the relay box and powering starter. Security light stays on when key is turned over.

Indeed that can effect starting. Keep us posted on your progress.

Aright dealership said it needs a brand new computer and that no used computers would work. Call Chrysler and they confirmed it. Essentially what I’m being told is its all HARD CODE so no resets? Can any one second this if I don’t find a way around this she’s being parted.

see if this helps for a replacement. The dealer wants a new one so when it
gets programed there won’t be a problem. In order to use a used one you would
                      need the exact car/style.

So then essentially I can use a old or remanufactored computer and have someone set it to my car? By the way Chrysler made it sound all the numbers in the computer were in there for good and could not be used due to VIN, emissions, etc and if I did use a used computer it could damage the car more than helping it.

I would contact this company and see how this works.
