I got a sticking front brake to my ford focus 2005, since the pep boys install new rotor and pads, I notice that while driving the car , it moves slow , or the car engine is running like having heavy load, and i notice the front brake gets hot,and the brake pedal traveling distance is short , in other words , hard to press. I keep on coming back in pep boys but they can’t diagnose the problem. They told me they ‘re check everything, from vacuum, leaks, bleeding etc, but no luck, Is there any suggestion or an Idea ?

looks to me like a rusted/stuck caliper

could be a rusted stuck caliper, could also be a peace of rubber broken loose in the break hose acting like a one way valve holding pressure into the calipers causing them too brake partially…

too test the calipers he should compress the calipers with a C clamp and see if the pistons easily compress inside the caliper, if you cant get it too compress open the bleeder screw keep in mind that the bleeder may be rusted so be ultra carful, this will allow trapped fluid a way too go, if this works than it may be a stuck hose trapping in fluid.

if opening a bleeder makes a difference check the break hose

possibly stuck caliper but a precautionary measure i have seen these hoses both prevent fluid from getting too the caliper and hold pressure in too it holding the breaks on.

          and give this a spin

Since it was okay before the visit to Pep Boys it is probably something they did. Since they had their hands on pads and rotors I’d look there. It could be the wrong rotor for the car. Many times the parts listing in their computer is wrong. That or maybe a wrong or mismanufactured pad. I’ve seen pads that are too large and you have to grind to make them fit and too small and they make noise. I’ve never seen too thick but that is a possibility too.

Not sure what the issue is, but if it happened after Pep boys worked on it, it’s really their problem. I suspect they didn’t open the bleeder valve when pushing the piston back and as a result may have damaged the master cylinder. However, that normally creates a spongy pedal, not what you have. That said, it still seems like something they did. I would take it back and make them do the fixing. You paid good money to them to have it fixed, not to get it back in worse condition.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hello everybody !!!! Thank you so much for the comments, reply and suggestions,. I been to pep boys again and watching them doing the work in my car , they drain out the brake fluid and put new fluid, they check everything and observed ,bleeding, and they told me hopefully no more problem. It happen again while i’m driving 5 min. in freeway , I smell burning brake pads, I get off and let it cool for a while, and drive the car until i reach home. my observation is ,It gets hot even though Im not using brakes too often and while i,m driving it suddenly see that the car rpm going up but runs too slow.

It sounds like Pep Boys are hopeless. If you keep driving it like that you are going to need a new transmission as well as brakes.

I’d suggest, if you have mechanical ability, delve into it yourself. If not, it is probably going to need to go to a proper shop. The two most common causes of what you are experiencing are stuck piston in the caliper or brake pad hopelessly stuck in the caliper. However, since this stumped Pep Boys, I’m guessing something is afoul with the master cylinder.

yes you’re right , I bring it to the ford shop, and they told me that the master cylinder is leaking and brake booster needs work, Im trying to call the pep boys since they told me they are going to do what ever the dealer’s diagnostic,

I suspected you might have a master cylinder issue. Keep us posted on what Ford finds and how they fix it. Good luck.
