🙁 my ford has a ticking sound coming from the engine. Thought it was a lifter tipping. used a long screwdriver to listen to the valve cover on ticking. Went to the timing cover under the engine and could hear the ticking throw the screwdriver. I am glad that it was not a lifter. I have watched videos on youtube about timing chains and they all said it takes special tool which i do not have nor do i have the money to buy. There is a chain tensioner on the front right side. Do you think if I replace it the ticking will go away.

There’s more than one chain tensioner and chain guide in those 4.0 SOHC engines. I believe there are 3 cam timing chains in total, (2 at the front, 1 at the rear), as well as a 4th chain to the balance shaft. So, you may be looking at 4 tensioners and 4 guides.
