I have a 2005 Honda Accord EX four door sedan with power door locks. The front passenger side door lock will not operate with either the remote or door lock switches inside the car. Neither the driver side or passenger side switch will operate the door lock. All of the other locks are OK and I can hear the door actuators “click” and then raise/lower the lock stems. After a little researching it appears that the door lock actuator failing is a common problem. Has anyone replaced a door lock actuator for a 2003-2007 Accord and could provide some tips/advice on replacing the actuator and removing the door panel ?

We also have a free link to Chilton’s online in the ‘How To’ section that may help you.

I would also check the wiring going to the door lock actuators also.

Actually the run channel video should help quite a bit but you’ll probably need an impact screwdriver to get the 3 screws that hold the assembly to the door out. It also helps to move the lower rear window track out of the way, just put the window all the way up before you start and you should be able to just take the 10mm fastener out that holds the lower guide in place and move it out of the way. Also be very careful when you pry the arms out of the door handle as this could break rather easily.

I have never done it on my car but I know my 90 LX Accord, the driver’s side will need it soon. I help my friend fixed his 92 Accord quite a few years ago. We thought it was the attenuator that was failing but it turns out it was not that. We just took the whole mechanism apart and lube every thing and it worked again. It’s been 5 years now. But we actually bought a used OEM attenuator on Ebay for $15. Like every thing that you do for the first time, take a picture. I was taking things apart while my friend was taking pictures with each step. While you are in there lube your power windows too, especially if you have a coupe. Those thing sag and make noise like an old lady when they get old.

            Good luck.

First thanks to everyone who posted their comments and advice. All of the advice came in handy. I have just finished replacing the door lock actuator on my 05 Accord and all door locks are functioning again ! The OEM part was about $21 + tax from the dealer. Repair time was about two hours, I just took my time being careful not to break any of the plastic parts. Removing the actuator and lock assembly from inside the door cavity was bit of a challenge, but it finally came out through the door opening. I also found a good DIY for a 2005 Accord that was a big help as well.
