Ok my dads van just hit 168k the other day and I noticed a problem when I was drivin it there is a burning smell and then it starts smokong or steaming from the front I popped the hood when I got home the exhaust manifold and converter was on fire idk what that means but I think there is a oil leak or something cause I noticed the oil cap was loose or there was a hose leaking. Also it’s throwing many codes and I fixed a few issues with idle and mpg

The most likely cause for red hot exhaust it is a misfire. Before long the catalytic converter will melt into a big lump. I advise that you have it checked by someone who knows what they are doing before the van catches fire.

Sounds like you have multiple problems there. I agree that it’s likely an oil leak that caused the fire but it may also have something to do with engine performance as suggested as well. Normally when dealing with performance problems start with the known problems such as the check engine light codes that are stored in the engine’s computer. More info here.

Once you’ve got that sorted look to solving the oil leak(s).

I’ll take it to my uncles cause this is a major issue now Becuse the radiator wires are melted so only 1 radiator fan works and also the rich front headlight wires are damaged idk how but I hope the van doesn’t burn to a crisp or a big ball of flames

If you have a garage it might be a good idea to park outside until you get it fixed.

That sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted on your progress and let us know what fixes it if you can. Good luck.
