I have a friend with a 04 S10 that the battery keeping dieing on. We took it to a shop and they came back and told us it was the starter. I think it strange its that when it only goes dead while sitting. We tested the battery and Alt. and they both tested good.

If the battery is going dead over a few days, this video from Eric will show you how to perform a parasitic load drain test on your battery to see if you have something that is draining the battery with the key off –

Also, most good auto parts stores can load test batteries, alternators as well as testing starters.

Does the vehicle not crank and how do the connects look?

Here is also another video on a no crank condition due to excessive corrosion on a battery terminal –

Good luck and keep us posted.

he took it to the auto parts store and their tester wouldn’t test it the first time due to low battery. so i charged it up and he took it back and they told him everything was fine but the starter was weak and that what was causing his battery to go dead. i just never heard of a starter just sitting there would cause the battery to die. And the wires and battery were nice and clean when i looked. will go thou the system this weekend to see if there is another probelm before he replaces the starter.

I have heard of starters drawing too much current when turning and causing starting problems, not sure if that’s what you mean by it being ‘weak’ though.

I’d look at the video Dreamer linked to and do a quick parasitic draw test on the electrical system – it’s easy to do and I think that will shed more light on things.

I’ve yet to see a starter cause a parasitic draw like that but it is possible I suppose however here is a video on how to diagnose a starter problem.

Also as dreamer posted it sounds like you have a parasitic draw situation so if you suspect the starter it would be very easy to disconnect it during the test to confirm that it is causing the draw.
