My 04 wj a few months ago on the way home my power steering when i turned to the left stopped working. The jeep only has 42000 mile on her.
I replaced the steering box from autozone. A few days latter the pump went also. Replaced from auto zone .Well replaced the steering box three times one pitman arm seal blew out the 2nd was no better the 3rd must of had an accident damage as the shaft was bent. Also form day one the rebuilt pump made some much noise as it was low of fluid but it was not low bleed the hell out of it and just could not get it to be quite. Found out from auto zone that they use a1 cardone as their rebuilder. So that answered my question as to why none of this parts were any good. So I found a brand New steering box and a brand new pump from Crown. The new pump is 100 time quiet can not hear it at all. The box seams to work BUT when stopped and trying to park its a little stiff. the power is there but not as easy as my wives jeep And yes I am using mopar power steering fluid
My wives 04 with 89000 miles on it I can turn the wheel with my little finger. My sons 02 has 134000 and I can turn it with my little finger also. I am told that as this is a new box just drive it and around 5/600 mile later it will free up ( it needs to break in) I never heard of having to break in a steering box
back in the 60s cardone had a bad name as to rebuilding stuff I can’t believe they are still in business today. I wasted so much time with this mess If I knew this in the first place I would have NEVER went with auto zone
Has any one heard or can tell me that my new box needs to break in?? Will get better the more I drive it
