There arent any honda dealers near by so what aftermarket fluid is good to use? Also any additives I should use to prolong the transaxles life?

Im not sure how failure prone these automatic transmissions are so just taking precautions.

Also i want to apologize i watch eric all the time but barely come to the forum. I am going to be changing that. I want to ccontribute to the forun more often. Thanks guys. Take care.

From what I recall, Eric recommends you use Honda’s fluid exclusively.

Barring that, the owner’s manual might suggest an alternative to use TEMPORARILY.

If it doesn’t, then leave the old stuff in until you can get to the Honda dealer to buy the specified trans fluid.

Barring going to the store, try ordering the fluid from a Honda dealer online?

I killed the transmission on my old accord by not using the walmart dexron. so if your going to do this service use Honda fluid, if not then let it be.

If you look at the owners manual you will see it calls for “Honda Genuine” fluid ill post a link. The stuff is expensive but trust me you don’t want to put anything but this stuff. I have heard of people using synthetic, you can try that if you want. But I nor Eric recommends it.

Honda has a new ATF formula called DW1 that replaces the old Z1 and its much better in my experience. I buy my Honda ATF online through Bernardiparts.com and its cheaper that the aftermarket fluids you mentioned. My sister-in-law made the mistake of going to a quick lube putting aftermarket ATF in her 2002 Honda CRV and she ended up getting a transmission error code and I found the 3rd gear switch gunked up and the fluid in horrible condition. It was foamy and gunky. The level was correct but wrong fluid. Just stick with OEM you will be better off.

Honda fluid only, no additives. Order it online if you can’t find a supplier close.

Here’s a link for Honda parts that you might find useful.
