Hey Eric, I realize that most repair manuals call for the engine in the Acura TLs to be taken out with the trans as a whole unit from the bottom. I bet you know as well as I do that they actually can be removed with the engine only right out the top. I do realize there were changes to the 07 and 08s but they probably aren’t significant enough to stop the engine from coming out the top. My 05 TL was actually my first Honda product and I had a bad engine, imagine that. I purchased the car with 87k on it and went to change the oil and realized it had an oil leak. I sprayed it off and drove it 5k and the oil leak was coming from between the head and the block. I called the dealer and the parts guy said that they had only sold one headgasket for a TL before and it was on my car. Supposedly the head bolts were stripped and the dealer had already put TIME SERTS ( fancy helicoil term ) in the block and the head still was leaking oil. I decided to purchase a used engine and installed it myself. I drove the car for 2 years and sold it because of a deal I got on a new Silverado. I really wish I could have kept that TL. It looked like the one in your suspension noise video. If you ever have to install and J32 engine in one, you should do it without a lift and out the top to relate with people without lifts.
      Thanks

First, sorry to hear about your experience. That sucked. That said, you’ve already pointed out how rare it is for those engines to fail. In order for me to make a video on the topic, I would need one of those vehicles to come in needing an engine. Second, yes, you can remove the engine from the top, but it’s much easier to drop it out the bottom with the subframe in my experience. You are correct that method would be difficult for the DIY, but as you pointed out, it’s not something you need to deal with that often.

        Thanks for the suggestion.
