This is the first Saab I have owned, and well I bought it with no intention other than to flip the car for some quick $$. Anyhow, I was told the transmission (GM F35 5-speed Manual) was shot. Could not engage any gears and it all happened in a split second. My general knowledge of the operations of a transmission (especially 5 speeds) told me that this would be a rather easy fix. First inspection of the car told me the Roll pin located on the shifter arm was indeed broken. Bought the car for a VERY comfortable price, and now I’m on my way to fixing it. Ran into a slight problem, The pin is completely sheared inside the shaft and the ends are sticking out and lodged firmly into place. I attached a photo of the roll pin, only difference is mine has about 1/4″ of the ends hanging out. First things first I grabbed some vise-grips in attempt to wiggle the end out. No luck. Any suggestions? Punch will not work until I get one end out so I can align the sheared pins to drive them out. Not a whole lot of room to beat around or get too much tooling in there. Really don’t want to drop the trans in order to do this simple fix. Any help appreciated!

Did you use a roll pin punch or just a punch? A roll pin punch should work.

I was using a roll pin punch, but without the pins being lined up it wouldn’t punch them through. I used a pickle fork to wedge the shift lever off, then punched them out separately. Replaced with a 3/16 bolt and hopefully wont have this issue again! On a test drive, I was furious to find out the car would not go into reverse. Started checking the linkages then noticed the spring on the shifter’s shaft, pulled up on the knob and well.. it went into reverse with ease. Felt like and idiot. But all is well. Appreciate the help!
