03 VW Passat with multiple random cylinder misfire. Its my wife’s car, so I didn’t hear anything leading up to it or anything, she just called me and said the CEL came on and wanted me to fix it lol. so I had her come home and I plugged in my scan tool, and it threw 5 codes. P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, and P0304. I checked under the hood and listened closely to everything I could think of, took off the plastic cover and listened closely to the valve cover but didnt hear any strange noises. My scan tool (the U-Scan) allows me to view live engine data and everything seemed to be running normally. I cleared the codes and sent my wife on the way with some reservations, and told her to keep a close eye on everything, but she reported that it performed as usual on the way to school. After 6 hours of sitting she drove it home and no issues except she said that it slightly revved occasionally as she was driving. When she got home I immediately went out and plugged it in again only to be stumped to see exactly what I had seen in the morning. So I come to you wise peoples. Please help me lol. I am stumped.

Unfortunately it wont give me the freeze frame data from this morning since I already looked at it and now that it doesnt have a code it wont give me any option to do the freeze frame

Abe, is this a 4 or 6 cyl?

I had a very similar issue in a 1999 Passat with a 1.8T 4 Cyl. Turned out to be the ignition module starting to go bad.

since your miss is happening on random cylinders i’d be inclined to start checking the ignition module(s) and the wires leading up to that. Im not 100% familiar with how VW’s are setup
