code showed up p0420, the bank one catalytic converter. seems to be a common issue for the murano. may need to be replaced soon. might just start with replacing o2 sensor.
if anybody could give directions on how to replace them, very much appreciated. for those who have done this work on the the nissan murano, could use your input. want to see if its something i could tackle myself or else ill just have our friend work on it in his shop.
anyone know where to get a quality california legal catalytic converter well-priced? thanks

its a 2003 nissan murano AWD

replacing the 02 sensor is fairly easy. first thing to do is find and unplug the plug-connector (just follow the wire up from the sensor eventualy you will run into it) then just unscrew the old O2 out of the exhaust pipe. be prepared, them things like to hang on pretty tight. a breaker bar and a special O2 sensor socket will make the job way easier. install is reverse of removal.

catalytic converters are more difficult but can be done with the right tools. for the average person, its probly better to take it somewhere to have that done.

i would check rockauto.com for a cali converter. they have some really good deals on brand name parts.

Before replacing O2 sensors you might want to perform these checks first to find out if the catalytic converter is indeed bad.

thanks for the video eric! i checked it with one of the scan tools at our school. since it was between the engine and firewall, and i haven’t done such repair yet, i wasn’t confident in doing it myself(i remembered one of your etcg1 videos). so we had the catalytic converter replaced at our friends shop who is a professional mechanic. he did mention the old o2 sensor and bolts were on there tight, but he got it out. we noticed the material on the old cat was breaking apart.

thanks again for your replies. 🙂
