I have been having this problem since last year( maybe since November). If I drive the vehicle for about 15-20 mins, and turn the engine off, and try to restart the car again(after a 3-5 min wait), it won’t start . I have to turn the key for about 3-5 mins( it cranks) then the car will start. When the vehicle finally starts, the engine has a poor idle, but quickly re cooperates. Another option I have is to wait approximately one hour and the car will start( no excessive crank). I never have problems starting the vehicle in the morning. The vehicle has never died on me while driving either. As I stated, the vehicle will not start after a 3-5 min wait from a 15-20 min drive. But if I immediately restart the car(no waiting 3-5 mins) the car will start like normal. Strange problem that I have.

I don’t know whats can be the problem exactly, but maybe check all your ground, your spark plug… maybe just do a quick tuned up and the problem will be fix 🙂

Leaky fuel pressure regulator? When engine doesn’t start press the gas pedal to floor then start 20s and lift gas pedal fast, does it start?

              Hi.
I am not a mechanic and I am learning just like you but in this particular situation I might be able to help. It seems like the Civics have a main relay just over the hood release lever that sometimes causes this, and it happens Eric made a video about it :

This was not a problem with the 03’s like it was with earlier models, so I would not worry about this.

Personally, I’d be checking the coolant level and condition. If there’s air in the cooling system it can upset the coolant temp sensor readings. If the coolant temp sensor is off, then it will not be able to calculate the correct fuel mixture which could cause a hard start like you describe. I would not condemn the sensor right off, if it was bad, it would likely set a check engine light. If you do have a check engine light on, pull the code and start with that. More info on diagnosing problems like this can be found in this article that I wrote.

Here’s a video on how to bleed the air out of the coolant.

                Keep us posted.
