      I have a 2003 Ford Focus that has rear drum brakes. I have replaced the rear drums twice. Once because the original where worn and rusted and the second time because the pressed in wheel bearings went bad. Each time I transferred the magnetic ring the gets tapped onto the middle inside of the drum to send signal to the ABS sensor. I don’t recall if there was an oil seal tapped in underneath and behind the ABS magnetic ring. I recently started getting an ABS light that when I pulled the code it was for a “no signal” from the rear driver ABS sensor. When I pulled the drum I discovered grease everywhere including on the magnetic ring, on the shoes, backing plate and on the tip of the ABS sensor. I appears the grease game from the bearing and splashed all over all the brake parts. I also noticed a very small ring seal on the back of the spindle shaft that looked a little worn and torn.

      I replaced the ring seal on the back of the spindle shaft but, I am unsure if there is supposed to be a seal under the ABS magnet ring that needs tapped into the back of the drum hole where the bearing is. I am also unsure if the bearing is good since all that grease was spun everywhere. The bearing doesn’t make any noise and spins smoothly but has a little play when you tug the drum back and forth when on the car and bolted down. After cleaning everything up with brake cleaner the ABS light stopped coming on. I attached a picture of the seal I think I need to purchase and install into the back of the drum inner hole to keep dirt out and grease in bearing. Thanks for reading.

      After doing some research I found that the Motorcraft Ford Drum with wheel bearing comes with an extra inner metal ring that acts as the seal. Aftermarket drums with the bearing pressed in doesn’t come with this metal rings seal. I am attaching a picture of the motorcraft drum with a red arrow on the part I need to find to install into the aftermarket drum. Took 2 hours of research to figure this out. I don’t understand how more people haven’t had this issue??

            Hello everyone… I wanted to update you folks and let you know I called Ford (local Dealership) and they provided me with a part number for that metal ring seal for the inner rear of the brake Drum. The never heard of an issue with these leaking because the only use Motorcraft drums that come with the this seal. The aftermarkets do not. So to order this part from Ford is about $15.00. I ordered two on eBay for around $24.00. The part number for the seals is: 1M5Z1A095A. I am also going to replace the drum with the pressed in bearing because it is a closed bearing and shouldn’t be splattering grease everywhere. I am also planning to replace the wheel cylinders and part of the brake like leading into the wheel cylinders due to rust. I will try and make a YouTube video for you guys ones I get all the parts and a semi-warm day outside. I hope this information helps someone else out. Also don’t forget to transfer the outer magnetic ABS ring over from the old drum to the new one. It does onto the inner back of the drum after you tap in the metal seal ring I ordered above. This is about a $30.00 part from Ford if you damage or forget it. If you gave ABS you will get an ABS light right away when you start driving if you forget to put it on. Thanks for reading. 🙂

              I must have misunderstood you, on the first post I read;I thought you wanted to know where the seal was in the original hub assembly. The hubs are both the same between disc and drum brakes ….I did one about six months ago for a friend. SKF and Timken make the seals…SKF # 18849… Timken I don’t know. How I found the number is when I removed the seal it was stamped in the metal toward the hub bearing.
