my dodge is throwing p0340 cam code. I replaced the sensor and it didn’t fix the problem. ive been trying to test the wires continuity but with not luck finding the correct pinouts on the pcm. Im hoping its a wire somewhere because I know pcms are not cheap.
      can anyone help me please.

Check for the 5 volt reference signal. if its present wiring ok.

I checked the wire continuity at pcm c2 plug pin 34, reading had no resistance. ive checked it unplugged with key on and no reading. I checked it running and I got a 5 volt reading on one and the other was reading all over the place, no clue what that means.

If you ohmed the wires and have no continuity then wiring has issue. You could try a
new pair of wires to the sensor. Did you try the 5volt test at the pcm pins?

yes I ohmed it. it had continuity, not an infinity reading.

Are you still getting this code AND the P0344? Or has this one gone away? What is the current status? I ask because you opened two threads.

the 0340 stopped reading now its 0344. I had both codes come up once and now its the 344, before that it was 340.

Ok, thanks for the update. As I posted on the other thread, a failing battery or weak starter can trigger the code. If the sensor and its power and ground are ok, I would look at the battery, starter, and possibly even alternator. The computer is always the very LAST thing to look at after checking out all other possibilities. Systems in the vehicle are interconnected and interdependent. A fault in one can sometimes trigger a code on a different system.

but the starter battery and alternator shouldn’t make the idle fluctuate stall out and or even die sometimes should it? the battery is new and gauge is in positive charge side, starts no problem no dragging of the starter that I can tell. never had any problem starting.

The starter would only cause the cam code if it can no longer crank the engine fast enough. The battery and alternator can cause all of the symptoms, though, as it messes with the reference voltage the computer uses to read the sensors. Bad data = bad performance. Just because you only have one code doesn’t mean you only have one problem. Also, you never mentioned any other symptoms. Since we cannot see or touch your vehicle, the quality of our advice is only as good as the quality of information you provide.

I tested while running and got 1 5v reading and the signal wire test should weird. I tested with key on and I didn’t get a reading on the 5v or the signal. ground is good that much I do know for sure. the engine cranks pretty fast though. what should I test and how do I test what needs to be tested?

fluctuating idling, I cleaned the tb and replaced the iac. that fixed the up and down idle and stalling out for a little while. when it was doing it the first time it wasn’t throwing p0340 or p0344 code.

Since you replaced the cam sensor, you will have to get your PCM re-flashed at the dealership. There is a TSB about that.

having it flashed will get rid of the codes and fix the idling problem? which is why I thought to change it since it threw the code before I changed it cam sensor

ok heres an update, it started doing a long crank start, longer than normal. I changed the cam sensor again and it starts right up and no 340 or 344 codes, seemed cleared itself. I never flashed the pcm either so idk if it start doing it again but hoping not. all seems fine now but I have different problems now of a different variety now I think.
