Yet another video of my cavalier..
This noise occurs before you turn the engine on (engaging fuel pump) and after turning the engine off, sounds like it’s coming from around the throttle body area?[video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG_zm3RMKJc&feature=youtu.be[/video]
I have bought a strut mount for the previous problem, I will post a video of that once the weather gets a little warmer to keep all those involved posted. 🙂

The sound you hear is the IAC valve adjusting position for the next start. When you turn the key on the IAC adjusts again to allow optimal Idle speed on startup. If the engine was hot the noise likely wouldn’t be so pronounced.
The car was of operating temperature, if that’s what you mean by hot, and it is normal? I mean I’ve been in a lot of cars, but I never heard that sound before, I’m not doubting your knowledge as I don’t have that much, I’m just concerned. I can hear it from inside my car.
Yeah…yours is quite loud but as long as the car idles at the correct speed and no stalling then I wouldn’t worry about it. It has a plastic intake manifold so there isn’t much to absorb the sound.
The only suspicious things I notice on idle is my rps will jump when I turn the wheel, and when my fan tries to kick on (it doesn’t work mind you) my rpms also jump, and on a warm day (70 degrees +) it would cause it to overheat rather quickly.

When you turn the wheel at a stand still it puts a big strain on the power steering pump, which is run by the engine. So RPM fluctuation is normal when turning the wheel at a stand still.
Also, when your cooling fan turns on it puts a strain on the electrical system which puts a strain on the alternator, which is also run by the engine. So this is normal as well. Especially if your fan is burnt up or something (you mentioned it doesn’t work)causing a larger current than normal to pass through it.
That’s what I figured, I just wanted confirmation. So I shouldn’t worry about the noise? I don’t like that, as when I first bought the car, it hasn’t made that noise up until around a couple months ago, and I’ve had it for 3 years.
