      Ok I’m new to the site and have a question, I don’t know if it’s been answered before but here goes, any help will be greatly appreciated.

      I have a 03 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t
      My car just recently started acting up, when I got home one day I parked the car to get something from home when I can back outside the car wouldn’t turn on.. It cranks and sounds like it wants to start but no luck.. After a few tries the car runs and drives amazing… There are day that it just shuts off while driving…
      My ruling is going towards fuel filter or pump…

      Does anyone know or have had similar problem with their A4?

        let your car sit for a little but, and check your fuel pressure…if the car tries to start, you have fire, and if it runs good once it start its mechanicaly sound! I would check fuel pressure out first…thanks

        You need 3 things for a motor to run
        1.Fuel/air mixture
        2.Compression
        3.fire

          Try cycling the key on and off 3-4 times without starting the car.
          then try to start it. If it starts up. fuel pump/fuel filter is suspect.

            An intermittent no start can be difficult to track down. As pointed out, you need to find out what is missing when the no start occurs. Since the engine does run I think you can rule out mechanical, but that still leaves spark and fuel. Check for both of those during the no start condition. If one or both are missing, you then know where to start your diagnosis. There’s also a lot of information in the article that College man posted for you that might help.

              Those are pretty good at gathering fault codes. So read fault codes (you’ll need VAG specific scanner). But many of fault codes may be unrelated and not really matter so don’t start replacing parts.

                Ok guy so I figured out the issue.. a pretty obvious reason too my head gasket was blown so my plugs were socked in water… There was no smoke coming out of the exhaust because there was no water 🙁

                But now I have another issue my temperature gauge is not working anymore it was working perfectly fine before I did the head gasket but now it won’t mark the temperature at all when you turn on the car the needle goes up about an 1/8 up and stays there… Fans won’t run anymore too…

                My question is how many temperature sensors are there and witch ones do I replace?
                I have a new thermostat housing with the blue sensor that I will be replacing soon but what other ones should I replace?
