I have a problem with my 02 Prius. My youngest daughter left the light on and drained the battery. I charged it but the battery will not hold a charge. I went to Toyota and after a 170$ fleecing for a new battery I was on my way.
When I went to put in this high dollar battery I discovered my kid had left the ignition in the on position. A loud noise “almost like a crackling grinding noise came from the front of the car”. I pulled the battery cables off as quick as I could approx 20-30 seconds and investigated the issue. I have the new battery in but no power what so ever. No lights, no radio, no emergency flasher, nothing. Is there a chance that I fried this battery or did I fry something else a bit more costly? I read something about the I need to clear all the ECU’s.

You need to cheack all the fuse and relay on you car. Hight voltage do relay and fuse damage. A long work to do at home, because the car dealer will do the same whit a hight price. You need a automatic multimeter (little more expensive but save you setting time). Then you can buy online on download your car service repair manual HERE. Then see the video to held you how to diagnose the bad relay and fuses :

Everything is hooked up correctly. The battery cables don’t reach if you put it in backwards. When I looked at Eric’s video on relays it has to be a fried relay. It was making a steady clicking noise when I hooked the battery up. I don’t have a power probe so I’ll have to hook it up the other way to test.

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/72-9280 80 us $ + shippingI would not assume a bad relay right off the bat. I’d be looking for a blow fuse before a bad relay. You can’t treat hybrids in the same way you would a regular car as there are procedures that need to be followed when doing such things. I’m not sure what those procedures are but I would think you would need to make sure the ignition was off when you did the replacement. You may need to take it in to be reset. Keep us posted on your progress.
