Hello,
My girlfriend’s 02 honda civic lx with the 1.7 motor is making a squealing noise, but only sometimes. Usually the noise will start from takeoff and after 5 or so seconds will stop. It sounds a lot like a belt squealing but I have replaced the p/s belt and checked the tension on the alternator/ a/c compressor belt. I know that maybe the sound might be belt related but due to one new belt and both belts looking in good condition with proper tension I’m exploring other possibilities right now. When the squealing starts turning off the a/c seems to help the noise disappear. So, I’m wondering if a bad a/c clutch would cause a noise like this. It doesn’t necessarily sound like a bearing but maybe it is. Any help would be appreciated. I’m just looking for alternatives to a belt problem because I feel like I’ve explored that possibility.
