Problem: I have a Honda Civic that has an AC issue. When I turn the AC on it works like it should. I get nice cold air, the fans kick on, it runs a few min or so then cycles off and then compressor engages and it runs some more. This goes on for about 6 or 7 min then the compressor cycles off and stays off. The AC button stays on so the fans stay on like it is calling for the compressor to come on but it just is not engaging. Now after the car sits for 3-5 hours you can turn it on again and it does the same thing runs for a few min then just stops.
What have I tried: I found the AC Clutch relay and swapped it with the same relay that is known good. Problem stayed the same. I attached my manifold gauges to the low and high side. I had about 140 PSI (Very High)on the low side and I had 120 PSI on the high side. So I tried it this morning and when the AC turned on the Low side was in the 50’s and the high side was still the same.
My Skill Level: I do not claim to be a AC pro. I have watched a bunch of Eric’s videos and I have actually removed and replaced complete systems. Installed New Compressors, Lines, Rec/Dryers , orifice tubes, Pressure switches, Evaps, and Condensers. I have an Vac pump and manifold gauges. I have been working on cars for about 30 years now. I am just including this so any advice that you provide you will understand my skill level.
I was just hoping this might be a common problem maybe with Hondas and might be a simple fix.
Thanks in advance for any advice….
John
