Hello, I’m replacing the lower control arms and ball joints on my girlfriends 02 Honda Civic lx sedan next week and was wondering if there is any special information I need to know before I tackle this job. I am very aquainted with working on gm vehicles but not Hondas. It would be a great help if somebody could give me the brief rundown on what I have to do to change out the control arms and how to pop the ball joints out of the steering knuckle, I think they are pressed in. Thank you

When you press out balljoints, you normally put a receiver cup around what the balljoint is pressed into. The Honda knuckle only has a flat surface for the cup around half of the circle, so you need a notched out cup to be able to sit flat on it and support the pressure of pressing it.

Did my wife’s 2002 civic LX lower control arms, tie rods (inner and outer) ball joints and stabilizer links last year. Found whole shebang as kit on EBay for 139.00 with free ship. Was suspicious, but fixed all noises and is still good so far… Got loaner ball joint removal tool from advanced and worked just fine with knuckle off car.
