      I have a 2002 Toyota Camry which started to show a crank, no start condition. The car will start up if I press the accelerator down half way. From what I read about online, I should try cleaning the IAC valve. I cleaned the butterfly valve in the thottle body a few months ago, but didnt try to clean the IAC valve at all. Also from what i’ve read online from a Toyota dealer, the IAC valve is integrated in to the thorttle body and must be replaced as a assembly, so I’m assuming I can’t take it out to clean it, and have to just dump a bunch of carb cleaner in there.

      Does anyone else have any other recommendations? Thanks a lot.

          First I would get your codes pulled. Most parts stores do this for free. You should be able to remove the iac. If the iac is bad there should a related code, but if you want you can pull it off and check it.
          -Remove the iac from engine
          -where the electrical connector is, you should see two leads
          -with two small jumpers connect each of the terminals on the iac to each of the terminals on your battery
          -the iac should ether close or open
          -switch the jumpers (to reverse polarity) and the iac will ether close or open (which ever is the oposite of the previous action)
          If the iac does not open all the way and(when polarity is reversed) close all the way then it is bad.

            You should start with basics first, as is mentioned in the vid that was posted ^^. Check fuel and spark, then you can check everything else if those seem fine. I’m guessing you have the 2.4 since the IAC is integrated in the throttle body?

              This issue appears to be intermittent. It happened one day but hasnt happened again. It isnt my car either, its my mothers. After looking around online some more, JCWhitney does have replacement valves, so I guess it is removable after all. I’m waiting on pay day to order a service manual off eBay to figure out how to properly remove the IAC to clean and check function.

              I’m assuming I have spark and fuel since it did start after I pressed down on the accelerator. Could I be mistaken? I also cant check for it now since the issue is intermittent.

              @hondaguy453

              Yes, the 2.4.

              @thisisbudd
              I have a code reader. But the MIL isnt on, so i’m assuming there aren’t any codes. Am I mistaken?

              Thanks everyone.

                Based on your description I think you’re on the right track by checking the IAC. Next time you start the vehicle try tapping on the throttle body with the butt of a screwdriver to see if the idle changes or begins to fluctuate when you do that. If it does then the IAC may be the problem and you’ll have to replace the throttle body. Just for the heck of it why not check for vacuum leaks.

                  Thanks Eric! Just wondering but can you check for vacuum leaks with Propylene gas (replacement for MAPP gas, comes in a yellow cylinder) too or only Propane?

                    Yes you can. You can also use water or smoke injected into the intake.
