        None of the above!

        Volvo V40 wagon.

        Why?

Cheap insurance. Reliable, commonly found with 200K+ miles. Excellent paint/materials, seldom see rust. Are easy to look at (for a wagon), can blow the doors off of most everything else in the parking lot with some tuning (look for the 1.9L turbo if that’s important to you, i believe there’s a 2.3 naturally aspirated lump as well). Almost every one was equipped with an automatic.

Best examples were 2001 to 2004.

The Hondas are great, but they are also on the list of the most stolen cars. The BMW is an awesome car, but parts can be expensive and many repairs require special tools. The Ford Escape, no, for many reasons, one being the plastics are cheap and break too easily. The Volvo would be my pick. They can be tricky to repair, but they don’t need many repairs if kept properly maintained. It’s interesting no Asian cars on your list (other than the Hondas). I see you specifically don’t want Toyota, but how about a Kia? The Kia Forte are great cars. Before you dismiss it, find one and go for a test drive. They’re fun to drive and economical.

The Escape has transmission problems and eat alternators. The Escape eats alternators due to location, underneath by the exhaust heat which kill them.Get a Misfire code with a Ford Escape, replace coils with the good coils since they eat them like candy. The Volvo and BMW,most shops will not work on them.

that used to be true about Hondas for many decades. but in the last decade and a half they have been equipped with immobilizer systems, so that the immobilizer keys are required to start the vehicle as opposed to hot wiring it like people used to. all modern cars nowadays have them, they have to by law.

Go for a Honda. Less headache and less worry.
