So I’m highly considering ripping out the automatic transmission in my 01 dodge ram 1500 and replacing it with a manual, but before I do that I wanted to ask all of you here on ETCG what you think about that. So, yeah, this would be my first time converting an automatic to manual so what should I prepare for? Where would be the best place to buy the parts? Would a new wiring harness and ECM be required? Please let me know what you guys and girls think, as I would really like to do this at some point! 🙂

I’ve also been seriously considering swapping an auto trans for a manual trans on my Ford Focus and would also like to know what I need to prepare for that.
I would also like to know if it worth it, or should I just buy a similar vehicle with a manual?
Could a novice like me do this, or would it be better to have it done at a shop?
A few things I’ve heard is to purchase a wreaked or parts car similar to yours (but with a manual trans) and swap it over. It’s the cheapest option (if you have the space for it, which I don’t).
So I am very interested in what responses people have for this.
It would be interesting project and do it if you are doing it for your own personal enjoyment. But I think you are better off just buying manual transmission truck. It would be cheaper to buy the whole truck than trying to piece together for manual swap.
