I’ve had this car since august, it had 52k miles, now 53.5k miles. I’ve changed the engine and transmission oil, along with the power steering and brake fluid and the A/C compressor (pulley seized). it has no fluid leaks at all, does not burn any oil. However, it does have 3 check engine codes, all for EVAP leaks which I have not diagnosed the source of yet, my bet is the purge vent valve.

The noise: has always happened, nothing has deadened it. At idle it is most noticeable, but still present at higher RPMS, it makes a whining screech, similar to a leaking air compressor hose fitting. When I put it into drive or reverse, when the rpm go to ~1100 it makes a low growling noise, as if bogged down, this seems to go away when it gets warm. I checked all of the exhaust piping and saw no issues, but the noise doesn’t originate from there unless it’s at the manifold, but that seems to be in good shape.
The belt being on or off makes no difference for any of these noises, I thought it might of been the alternator.
It is worst when cold, but always present. I found I could noticeably reduce the loudness of the whine by holding the intake manifold tightly, not a huge amount but definitely noticeable.

My next plan is to pull all the spark plugs to see if there are signs of problems.

Here is the video, which I feel captured the noise very well, although I have no way good way to capture the growling at ~1100 rpm.

Try locating air leak spritzing water on intake and looking for bubbles.

Given that you’ve already removed the belt to check the accessories (well done BTW), it may be one of the timing belt tensioners. Based on the sound, it seems rotational to me.

I changed the timing chain tensioner, the problem persists. It did have some gunk on the outside, so maybe it was leaking and not a loss. I’ll keep thinking on it for now until I am inspired by something else.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Since it seems to go away when you hold the intake manifold maybe spray around the gasket with brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Even a little bit of water as cj1 suggested.

                Time for more specific diagnosis.

This was also in the article I linked for you.

It does sound like a vacuum leak on the video, but it’s tough to call.
If you have a scan tool that can read long and short term fuel trims you may be able to narrow down your search.
