      Hello,

I have a 2001 Civic, with 300k miles, original owner. I replaced the original A/C compressor at about 200k miles.

Now my current compressor is acting up. It’s somewhat noisy, usually when you first turn it on. It usually goes away shortly after. Also, when it is making this noise, the car seems like it’s really struggling on power, doesn’t want to go like normal. Fuel mileage doesn’t seem to be effected.

Should I be planning on replacing this compressor? Could it be just the clutch? A/C performance seems fine, blows cold.

Also, the car really struggles to start when the a/c is in the on position. Cranks and starts fine when it’s not.

      Thanks

I would also check the belt and the pully’s and the belt tenchner because one of those can be bad and cause the belt to slip or act up… it can be the compressor and/or the ac cluch many check the supports that connect the ac cluch if they are rubber and cracked then thats probly your problem you will see them on the outside of the chuck looking like screws… some have rubber some dont just so you know

          Thanks.

Belt is kind of old. I don’t think it’s slipping though. Will check again.

The belt is tensioned manually. It wraps around crank, and alternator. All solid mounts.

Life is much simpler if a tired compress is replaced before it thrashes and fills the system with debris . If you let it go that long , then you need to flush the system , change the expansion device and who knows what else . Along with , of course , the dryer .

            God bless
