Ok I’m seriously confused here. I got an 01 accord 4 cylinder (f23a1 engine) model with oil on the threads of 2 of the spark plugs. I already replaced the gasket tube seals in the valve cover along with the valve cover gasket.

I was going to replace the lower o-ring gaskets but I come to find out the 98-02 models don’t have them like the 97 and previous years do!

So where is this oil coming from?? It’s been like this for a few months now please help.

If that is the VTEC head with actual ‘tubes’ for the spark plugs there is one of 2 explanations, either the seals in the valve cover are not installed correctly (you actually want to install them in a what looks like an up-side-down orientation). If you know those are installed correctly then you may need to remove the tubes themselves in order to reseal them. This doesn’t happen often if I’m honest so I would start with the seals in the valve cover as I see problems there all the time. To remove the tubes you will need a pipe wrench and a lot of patients not to mess up the tubes, mess them up and you’ll be “in a world of pain Smoky” (that’s a line from The Big Lebowski BTW).

If it’s NOT the type with tubes this video should help. I recommend OE parts for this as they are much better than the aftermarket units.

Yes, it has the vtec head. As I said in my original post, I had already chaged out the tube seal gaskets in the valve cover. Could I have not installed them correctly? I cant see how thats possible though as they only go in one way…they’re a bitch to get in and out too I might add.

I followed the link and watched the video, but like I said in my original post, and if your familiar with the 6th gen 4 cylinder Accords (98-02 models), they do NOT have the lower o-rings that you installed in the video. Only the 97 and older models have them.

forgot to mention=is the oil only on the threads?….if these seals are leaking the whole plug will be soaked,,,,,these seals will pop in and out very easily,,,dont know why you would have to force them…

Yes as I stated in my original post you COULD have them in the wrong way. I also stated that if you have the ‘tubes’ then you will need to carefully remove the tubes with a pipe wrench and reseal the threads but as I also stated it’s not common for these to leak there so I recommend going back and checking the work you did to ensure you installed the seals correctly and yes you can put them in upside down OR they could be damaged or not seal correctly if they are not fully seated in the valve cover.

Just a quick question. My repair guy said that because this is happening, I should probably start looking for a new car. I didn’t think that was necessarily true. Your thoughts

how tight did you get them? In the cars the size bolts determine how tight the bolt gets tightened. You need an inch/Lbs torque. Did you use Ft/lbs by accident? Valve cover/oil pan bolts usually get approx. 80inch.lbs
